Initially, the department of Mathematical Sciences was founded in 1977 as a part of the Faculty of Basic Sciences. Upon the division of the Basic Sciences Faculty into two independent faculties in 2010, the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences was established. Currently, the faculty has more than 800 students and 29 academic members who are known nationally for their high-level and prolific research activities. Mathematical research at the faculty is focused mostly on topics in pure and applied mathematics, and encompasses a broad range of applied and theoretical topics which are interdisciplinary, and work toward offering solutions for practical problems.
