Department of Plant Biotechnology

About

The Department of Plant Biotechnology located in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of Guilan University has successful experiences in projects such as genetic engineering and gene transfer, proteomics, metabolomics, plant stress and medicinal plants. In this department, which appertains to postgraduate students, projects with the topics mentioned are ongoing.

Majors and Programs

Our department plays a crucial role in the education of students biochemistry-biotechnology, plant biotechnology and bioinformatics by offering courses in a wide range of disciplines, centered around plant-specific aspects of biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology and physiology  and the ability to use biochemical and biotechnological techniques in a creative and inventive manner. Another aspect is to obtain a better and preferentially more quantitative molecular understanding of cellular processes by integrating and modeling high-throughput molecular data.

The staff members of our department are involved in many educational programs. The different research groups transfer obtained cutting-edge plant biotechnological know-how and expertise to the next generation of scientists by educating students and providing projects for pursuing a PhD.

Currently, there are 25 master's and 25 Ph.D. students at the department.

  • Teaching

The missions of Department of plant biotechnology are to enhance the knowledge, insight and skills of volunteers in higher education in plant extension and education, so that they are creative, entrepreneurial and capable of intellectual independence and can be the source of effective services in Community. Graduates are provided with adequate knowledge and skills in various fields of plant Sciences. It also conducts fundamental and applied research and adaptation and development in order to produce science and technology in related fields.
