The department of Chemistry began its activities at the University of Guilan in 1979. After the glorious Islamic revolution, the department continued its existence by accepting students in the field of Pure Chemistry. With the expansion of its educational and research activities, the department received the permits to have MSc. programs in 1992, and PhD. Programs in 1997. Currently, the department has 30 full-time faculty members (9 Professors, 9 Associate Professors and 12 Assistant Professors) with 347 Bachelor, 182 Master and 85 PhD students. With 1000 published papers in the finest journals (130 ISI papers in 2012, 88 ISI papers in 2013 and 97 in 2014) and having 393 MSc. and 38 PhD graduates, the department is considered to be one of the best departments of the University of Guilan.
