During the 27th General Assembly of the Association of the State Universities of the Caspian Sea Region Countries, held at Atyrau State University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov, the University of Guilan was officially announced as the host of the 28th session of the Assembly.
Dr. Ali Basti, Chancellor of the University of Guilan, emphasized the scientific and technological capacities of universities, research centers, and science and technology parks in the Caspian region. He further highlighted their critical role in addressing regional challenges and noted the cultural, historical, and scientific commonalities among the countries of the Caspian region. He described international cooperation among universities and scientific centers in the region as a valuable opportunity for achieving sustainable regional development.
Dr. Basti also expressed the University of Guilan’s readiness to expand scientific collaboration. He outlined key institutional capacities, including the Caspian Sea Basin Research Center, the Eurasia Political-Economic Studies Research Core, and the International Journal of Caspian Environmental Sciences (CJES).
The opening ceremony of the Assembly coincided with the 85th anniversary of the founding of Atyrau State University. In his remarks, Dr. Salamat Idrissov, President of the University, referred to the Assembly’s main themes and stressed the importance of scientific convergence among universities in addressing regional environmental, technological, and human challenges.
Professor Yuri Pimenov, Secretary-General of the Association, and Dr. Alexandre Nevaleny, President of Astrakhan State Technical University, also expressed their satisfaction with the performance of the University of Guilan as the Iranian Secretariat of the Association. They highlighted the fundamental role of the University of Guilan and other Iranian members in advancing the Association’s scientific objectives.
