University of Guilan (UG) is one of Iran’s top universities, renowned for its research-led teaching methods, its unique green location, and its strong sense of purpose aimed at broadening students' perspectives.
UG was originally established in 1974 in Rasht as the Graduate School of Business. It became the 17th university in Iran after receiving approval from the Higher Education Council in 1976. Through a collaborative agreement between Iran and Germany, UG launched its academic activities by enrolling 400 students in nine fields of study.
Today, with 14 faculties and two research institutes, the University of Guilan is the largest university in northern Iran. Over 14,000 students are currently enrolled at UG, 40 percent of whom are graduate students. The university offers more than 58 B.A./B.Sc. programs, 188 M.A./M.Sc. programs, and 80 PhD programs. These programs aim to combine traditional academic approaches with new knowledge, methodologies, and technologies. The university's fundamental mission is to advance and disseminate knowledge and its understanding. Moreover, the University of Guilan is committed to improving the range and quality of its research and educational activities, while also enhancing the environment in which students and faculty carry out these activities.
