As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic and educational cooperation between the University of Guilan and universities in the Russian Federation, a joint meeting was held with the President of the University of Guilan, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Rasht, and the Scientific Counsellor of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation.
During this meeting, Dr. Ali Basti, President of the University of Guilan, noted the University's position as Iran's eighth comprehensive university and emphasized leveraging its academic strengths to enhance bilateral cooperation with Russian higher education institutions. He also referred to the University's role as the Secretariat of the Association of Caspian Universities and Research Centers and to the activities of the Eurasian Studies Think Tank at the University of Guilan. He stressed the importance of making full use of these capacities to expand cooperation with Russian universities, research centers, and science and technology parks.
Dr. Davoud Roustaei, Scientific Counsellor of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, Belarus, and Central Asia, described the University of Guilan as one of the most successful academic institutions in fostering cooperation with the Eurasian region. Referring to the longstanding friendly relations between Iran and Russia, he stated that Russia's political and humanitarian support in recent years reflects the country's goodwill. Dr. Roustaei also identified the removal of several Russian universities from the list of institutions approved by Iran's Ministry of Science, Research and Technology as one of the country's primary concerns. He proposed the indexing of Russian universities in the Islamic World Science Citation and Monitoring Institute (ISC) as a practical solution to this challenge and expressed hope that, with the ISC Regional Office located at the University of Guilan, the University would be well positioned to facilitate the membership and indexing process for Russian universities.
Sergey Azarov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Rasht, expressed his pleasure at visiting the University of Guilan and described the University as a well-regarded and highly respected institution within Russia's academic community. He affirmed that the Russian Consulate General in Rasht is fully committed to strengthening academic ties and expanding inter-university cooperation.
Following the meeting, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Rasht and the Scientific Counsellor of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation visited the Russkiy Mir Office and the Russian Language Laboratory at the Faculty of Literature and Humanities.
