The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of the University of Guilan has achieved a remarkable distinction by being named the top sports faculty in the Middle East and West Asia, highlighting its excellence in the region.

According to the 2025 Shanghai Ranking report, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of the University of Guilan maintained its first place among Iranian universities, as it did the previous year. It was also ranked among the top 101–150 sports faculties in the world, becoming the leading sports faculty in the Middle East and West Asia.

The Shanghai Ranking system evaluates top universities over a five-year period using five criteria: the number of publications, the number of citations, citations per publication, the percentage of publications in the top 25% of journals, and the extent of international collaboration in publications. This comprehensive evaluation ensures a robust assessment of academic excellence.​​​​​​​
