The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Guilan has earned a remarkable distinction, being recognized as the leading sports faculty in the Middle East and West Asia, a testament to its sustained excellence in the region.

According to the 2025 Shanghai Ranking report, the faculty retained its first place among Iranian universities, as it had in the previous year. On a global scale, it was ranked among the top 101–150 sports faculties, further cementing its status as a regional leader.

The Shanghai Ranking evaluates top universities over a five-year period using five key indicators: total publications, number of citations, citations per publication, the proportion of publications in the top 25% of journals, and the degree of international collaboration.
